Inspired by nature, for a sustainable future.

FoamWood brings to market an ecological solution to replace plastic foams.

Inspired by nature and driven by a decade of scientific research, FoamWood brings to market an ecological solution to replace plastic foams. This bio-based, lightweight, and strong material mould free and fast-drying foam manufacturing process; without the need for any chemical additives, extreme pressures or temperatures.

The  FoamWood team seeks innovative ways of exploring cellulose-based materials as suitable alternatives to replace plastic. Through a holistic approach the project allies scientific research, circular thinking, design, and business strategy to develop a  material that truly answers commercial,  social,  and environmental needs.

Double the strength
for half the weight.

FoamWood’s elongated bubble structures result in a superior directional strength (per density) in comparison to other bio-based foams. Our foams are harder and stronger even if compared to cardboard.

Scalable and adjustable
to consumer needs.

FoamWood was designed to be easily adjusted to specific application needs. The foam content, as well as the post-processing of the material, can be set to enhance defined foam qualities, such as load-bearing capacity or recyclability.

Similarly, FoamWood’s production process was designed in modules that can be easily adjusted to different scales of production.

Bio-based, recyclable
and biodegradable.

Unlike many bio-sourced alternatives in the marketFoamWood can be fully bio-based, biodegradable and recyclable. With the right choice of fibers FoamWood can be designed to be recyclable with cardboard as well as to be quickly biodegradable in natural conditions or composting.
